Window Types
Awning - A window hinged along
the top edge and designed to swing at the bottom.
Bay Window - A window in a structural
bay.
Bow Window - A curved window or
group of windows.
Casement - A window hinged along
one of the vertical edges.
Casing - Finish trim around a window.
Double Hung - A window with an
upper and lower sash that slide verically in separate slots.
Fanlight - A semi-circular transom
window with muntins that fan out from the center.
French - A pair of casement windows
hinged on the outer vertical edges so that they can open inward
or outward together.
Jalousie - A window with adjustable,
pivoting, overlapping horizontal glass slats.
Mullion - A vertical post or double
jamb that divides two window sashes or panes.
Rail - One of the horizontal elements
of a sash.
Sash - The frame surrounding the
panes of glass.
Sill - The base of a window jamb.
Stile - One of the vertical elements
of a sash.
Transom - A small window above
a door.
