HVAC Terms
Central Air- An air conditioning
unit that cools the whole house via ducting.
Duct Work - Sheet metal piping
that carries hot and cold air throughout a house
Electric Furnace - Heating by electric
resistance cable, or panels in floors, walls, or ceiling.
Forced Air - Heating by hot air
blown by a furnace fan and carried via duct work thoroughout house
Gas Heat - A furnace powered by
Natural Gas.
Heat Pump - A device for recirculating
heated air. Heats in winter time and cools in summer time. Very
high efficiency.
Oil Heat - A furnace powered by
fuel oil. Requires an oil tank, and frequent maintenance.
Register - A grating in floor or
wall to permit heated or cooled air to enter a room.
