Exterior Coverings
Beveled Siding- Siding which consists
of horizontally overlapped boards, that are thinner on the upper
edge than the lower, often made from cedar.
Board and Batten- Siding that is
applied in vertical panels or boards, with vertical joints covered
by narrow strips.
Brick- Outside structural wall
or veneer made with brick and mortar. Low maintenance and fireproof.
Typically the most expensive, but longest lasting.
Clapboard- Smooth, beveled, narrow
siding typically found in older homes.
Shingle- Thick wooden shingle which
is applied vertically. Also called a shake.
Shiplap- Wooden siding milled on
both ends to allow an overlap of one edge over the next board.
Stucco- Cement based material applied
over metal lathing or screen.
Tongue and Groove- Wooden siding
with a groove milled on one edge, and a protruding tongue on the
other edge, so that tongue edge fits into groove edge of the next
board. Typically installed vertically.
